How is Sales Tax Calculated?

The sales tax computation will depend on your setup based on these scenarios:

Scenario 1: Fees and tax is absorbed by the event organizer.

  • Ticket Price: $100

  • Sales Tax: 5%.

  • Amount paid: $100

Computation:

  • To compute the sales tax, get the 5% of $100

  • $100 x .05 = $5

  • The sales tax is $5

Breakdown of the amount paid by the buyer:

  • Accelevents ticketing fee: $7 (for Enterprise Plan)

  • Credit card processing fee: $3.20

  • Sales tax: $5

  • Remaining revenue (from ticket price): $84.80

  • $7 + $3.20 + $5 + $84.80 = $100

Scenario 2: Fees are absorbed by the event organizer and tax is passed to the buyer.

  • Ticket Price: $100

  • Sales Tax: 5%

  • Amount Paid: $105

Computation:

  • To compute the sales tax, get the 5% of $100

  • $100 x .05 = $5

  • The sales tax is $5

Breakdown of the amount paid by the buyer:

  • Accelevents ticketing fee: $7 (for Enterprise Plan)

  • Credit card processing fee: $3.35

  • Sales tax: $5

  • Remaining revenue (from ticket price): $89.65

  • $7 + $3.35 + $5 + $89.65 = $105

Scenario 3: Fees and tax is passed to the buyer.

  • Ticket Price: $100

  • Sales Tax: 5%.

  • Amount Paid: $116.20

Computation:

  • To compute for the sales tax, add the base ticket price ($100) + Accelevents fee ($7) and credit card processing fee ($3.67), then multiply it with the sales tax rate (5%)

  • $100 + $7 + $3.67 = $110.67

  • $110.67 x .05 = $5.53

  • The sales tax is $5.53

Breakdown of the amount paid by the buyer:

  • Accelevents ticketing fee: $7 (for Enterprise Plan)

  • Credit card processing fee: $3.67

  • Sales tax: $5.53

  • Remaining revenue (from ticket price): $100

  • $7 + $3.67 + $5.53 + $100 = $116.20

Scenario 4: Fees are passed to the buyer and tax is absorbed by the event organizer.

  • Ticket Price: $100

  • Sales Tax: 5%

  • Amount Paid: $110.51

Computation:

  • To compute for the sales tax, get the total amount, then subract it from (the total amount divided by 1.05 (05 represents 5%)).

  • $110.51 - ($110.51 /1.05)

  • $110.51 - $105.247619 = $5.26

  • The sales tax is $5.26

Breakdown of the amount paid by the buyer:

  • Accelevents ticketing fee: $7 (for Enterprise Plan)

  • Credit card processing fee: $3.51

  • Sales tax: $5.26

  • Remaining revenue (from ticket price): $94.74

  • $7 + $3.51 + $5.26 + $94.74 = $110.51
