Redirect Attendees to Any Page and Automatically Log Them In
The magic link automatically logs in attendees to the virtual event hub or if it's not open yet, it will redirect them to the landing page. Now, you can choose to which page they will be redirected without the hassle of entering their name and email address to log in, instead they will be logged in to any page like the limited display link, the survey link or your custom advanced pages.
How Does It Work?
You'll need to format your destination URL to a URL-encoded format, and add it at the end of a merge tag in an Engage Email. The appended merge tag + formatted URL will be added as the link to the button in the email. When attendees receive the engage email and click the button, they will be redirected to the destination URL and they will automatically be logged in to that page.
Notes:
This will only work through engage emails
The link does not expire, it will log you in every time you click it.
The link will only work for those who have event access (team members, buyers, attendees, speakers and exhibitors) and those who have an Accelevents account. If they are none of the above, the link will not be included in the email sent to them.
If the link is accessed through mobile and they have the attendee app installed, the link will redirect to the app, it will be like a normal magic link. If they want it to open to a browser, they can change that settings on their device. See how to change the redirect from app to browser / bowser to app.
Make sure to follow the correct format or it will not work.
You can ignore the error "Please enter a URL" when you're setting this up. We are removing this prompt to avoid confusion, stay tuned for updates!
Change the Destination URL to URL-encoded format
In this example, we have a limited display link that displays only add ons.
https://www.accelevents.com/e/u/checkout/eventscape/tickets/order?displayCode=TSHIRT
We all know that in order to purchase add ons only, they need to be logged in to be able to determine if their ticket is allowed to purchase the add on. So, instead of manually logging in or requesting for a magic link to log in, we will send them the Limited Display Link that also logs them in.
To format your link, you can go to any site that converts the format of your url, such as the following sites:
The formatted link should look like this:
https%3A%2F%2Fwww.accelevents.com%2Fe%2Fu%2Fcheckout%2Feventscape%2Ftickets%2Forder%3FdisplayCode%3DTSHIRT
Append the Merge Tag to Include Your Link
The link can only be sent through the engage email, so you'll need to add a merge tag in a button in your email and include your formatted URL in that merge tag.
The appended merge tag will have 3 parts:
${MagicLink}- this part will automatically logs in the attendee&redirectUrl=this part will redirect them to a different page instead of the default virtual event hub or landing pageyour formatted URL - this part redirects them to that specific page
If we're using the limited display link example above, the appended merge tag will look like this:
${MagicLink}&redirectUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.accelevents.com%2Fe%2Fu%2Fcheckout%2Feventscape%2Ftickets%2Forder%3FdisplayCode%3DTSHIRT
Add the Appended Merge Tag to The Engage Email
Go to Engage > Emails
Open your email for editing
Add a button or text that you will add the link to
In the button's URL field add your appended merge tag.
If you're adding a hyperlink to text, paste your appended merge tag to the URL field.
Save or send your email
Note: You can ignore the error "Please enter a URL." We are removing this prompt to avoid confusion, stay tuned for updates!
Test the Link in the Engage Email
You can send a test email to yourself to try if the link will redirect and log you in. Make sure that when you clicked you are logged out or use an incognito window. The link does not expire, so it will always be "magic" when you click it.
Note: The link will only work for those who have event access (team members, buyers, attendees, speakers and exhibitors) and those who have an Accelevents account. If they are none of the above, the link will not be included in the email sent to them.
