An attendee's ticket has access to all event days, but as an admin, you can restrict which sessions they can join. If you want your attendee to be able to watch just the sessions for Day 1 of your event, then you can set their ticket type to access only the sessions for Day 1. You can also restrict how many sessions they can join.

Restrict Ticket Types to Specific Sessions

The steps below will allow an attendee to join just the sessions for Day 1 and still be able to enter the event for all event days to access the other aspects of your event, such as the People tab, Lounges, and Expo.

1. Create a ticket type

In this example, let's create a ticket that has access only to sessions for Day 1

  • Go to Registration > Set up Tickets

  • Click Create Ticket

  • Enter the details of your ticket type and click Save

2. Select sessions that can be accessed by this ticket type

By default, all tickets can access all sessions. To make restrictions, you need to unselect all the other ticket types that won't have access to those sessions.

If you created Ticket A and Ticket B, by default, Ticket A and Ticket B can access all the sessions. In order to make sure that only Ticket A can access sessions for Day 1, you need to select Ticket A and unselect Ticket B from all the sessions happening on Day 1.

  • Go to Agenda and Speakers

  • Click edit on the session (pencil icon) to slide into the Session Details

  • Scroll down to Ticket Types and click the dropdown

  • Choose which ticket type can enter that session

  • Note: There is an option to hide the session from attendees who cannot register for the session. If this is not enabled and they try to register, they will get an error message that says, "Your ticket does not permit access to this session."

Restrict Ticket Types to Specific Number of Sessions

In this example, let's create a ticket with access to only 4 sessions.

By default, attendees are allowed to register for all available sessions. To make restrictions on how many sessions they can join, you need to indicate how many sessions they can register for.

Create a Ticket Type with a Session Number Limit

  • Go to Set-up Tickets

  • Click Create Ticket

  • Enter the details of your ticket type

  • Click Advanced Settings

  • Enter the number of sessions allowed in the Number of Sessions allowed to register field.

By doing this, the attendee may only enter the 4 sessions that they selected. They can either pre-register for it or click the join button to enter the session. If they have already entered / pre-registered for 4 sessions, they can no longer enter the other sessions in your event.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I restrict their access to only Day 1? Will I still be charged for the other days?

  • Yes, the attendee still has access to all event days, so we will still charge $3 per day per attendee.

Can I still change the ticket restrictions after an attendee buys a ticket?

  • Yes, you can still change it, and the attendee's restrictions will be updated when they try to join sessions.

If an attendee has 2 different tickets with different restrictions, what ticket rules will be followed?

  • If one ticket allows the attendee to enter a session and the other does not allow them, then it would follow the first ticket that will allow them to enter the session.

If an attendee has already chosen which sessions they want to watch and want to change it, can they still do that?

  • Yes, if their ticket is restricted to join to just a number of sessions, they can unregister for a session if they want to pre-register for another one.

  • If they have already joined the live session, that session is already counted, and they can no longer unregister for that.

Can I add restrictions on accessing other parts of the event, like the Lounges and Expo booths?
